Note: This BLS program covers over 700 occupations, 600 of which are reported for the Kansas City metropolitan area. The occupations and data shown in this table reflect only a small part of the data available in the OES program. There are also OES reports for the Lawrence, KS MSA , the St. Joseph, MO MSA, and the Topeka, KS MSA. Additionally, the BLS produces an alternative wage survey for metropolitan areas called the National Compensation Survey. The Human Resource Management Association of Greater Kansas City also produces an annual salary survey.
DEFINING THE GREATER KC METRO AREA
Kansas City is a Missouri/Kansas bi-state metropolitan area. All statistical references made to Kansas City Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) include the counties of Cass, Clay, Clinton, Jackson, Lafayette, Platte and Ray in Missouri, and Johnson, Leavenworth, Miami and Wyandotte counties in Kansas. The greater Kansas City area also includes the adjoining Lawrence, KS, St. Joseph, MO, and Topeka, KS MSAs, as well as the Atchison, KS, Chillicothe, MO, Ottawa, KS, and Warrensburg, MO areas.
